Blog 2: Ballenger's 12 pictures

As I read Ballenger's Essay, I thought to myself ok awesome this guy is weird and likes to photograph green peppers but in reality what he discovered was that a simple green pepper can bring so many different views and ideas to ones mind. Also how he went to the prison area with his student and what he was focussing on was the bigger prison and not on the smaller building next to it. The main idea that I got from this story is that sometimes we are to busy trying to get the big picture that we miss all the neat and beautiful details around it. So as I walk through campus to get to my classes I just see the usual buildings like Kettler, Walb, Science Building, and Neff. I just think to myself wow this walk is kind of boring. So i took the time to go through and actually see the natural beauty that our campus has to offer. So here are 12 pictures that I took on my walk to school.

These beautiful purple flowers are found by our school mascot The Mastodon, between the Helmke
Library and Walb.

I walk to school from Canterbury and I never knew that there was a garden on campus that one can enjoy. It is called "The Children's Garden" and it has many beautiful attractions.
This is a statue of a mother turtle carrying it young on its back. The focus here is the
young turtle looking at its mother.

I walk by this almost every day and it just looks like dried old tall grass to me but taking
a closer look I like how its rich golden touch texture falls between the colorful flowers which
it's surrounded by.

When looking at this flower I see the way its texture shows different colors. It has
darker violet lines running through it like little veins.

This is one of the many trees that we have on campus but taking a closer look we can see that
it not only have plain old green leaves but these little almost green cherry looking things.

This shows how a simple plant can standout and be so beautiful if taken more into detail. Although this plant is small compared to the body of water and the trees, I believe that this picture brings out how important and beautiful any
small thing can be.

This shows more in depth the texture of a tree and how it kind of looks rough compared to the
soft water and grass behind it.

This is a pine tree but I captures its needles and baby pine cones. I really admire
how the green of the needles gets lighter as it reaches its root on the branch.

Around the garden they had this light house, it really sticks out next to all the trees
and bushes.

I like this picture a lot. I like how if you really pay attention to the bee you can really see the texture of its wings. At first I shot this picture focusing on the pink flowers but the bees picking pollen is what
really captures the attention in this shot.

This focuses on the couples bench looking out into the landscape.

When one takes shots of objects in different angles it really makes a difference in the
way one looks at things. This for example is a picture of one of the many benches that
one can find on campus. This angle really gives it a different view.

So with the help of Ballenger's essay and taking some pictures, this has helped me realize that for our essay we should not only focus on what the main idea is but to look more into depth of the subject. Once one has chosen our main topic, we should also ask other questions, find different points on the subject and go more into detail with it. This will help us get more information and add a variety to ones paper and help us see it in different ways, kind of like our pictures we took.
